‘Tis the season for festive gatherings and dinner parties, and what better way to show appreciation for your holiday hostess than with a thoughtful and budget-friendly DIY gift? Today I’m sharing a charming hostess gift idea that’s not only affordable but also looks so adorable. I’m also sharing even more simple hostess gift ideas for Christmas at the bottom of this post. Get ready to transform thrifted & dollar store finds into a delightful present that will leave a lasting impression!
You Will Need
- Thrifted wooden cutting board
- Snowflake tea towel from Dollar Tree
- Bell-shaped Dollar Tree Christmas ornament
- Gold ribbon
- Sandpaper
- Wood oil or conditioner
- Adhesive or hot glue gun
- Optional: festive gift tag
Step 1: Thrifted Treasure – Reviving the Wooden Cutting Board
Begin by scouting your local thrift store for a sturdy wooden cutting board. The key is to find one with good bones that can be transformed with a little TLC. Once you’ve selected your board, gently sand away any imperfections, creating a smooth surface.
I found my cutting board at Value Village. It had some words on the front and a few scratches on the back, but I was able to sand them out with a battery-operated sander.
Step 2: Bring it Back to Life – Oiling the Cutting Board
Give your cutting board a new lease on life by applying a generous coat of wood oil or conditioner. This simple step not only revitalizes the wood but also adds a touch of elegance. Allow it to dry completely before moving on to the next step. Look how beautiful mine looks after being sanded and oiled!
Step 3: Dollar Tree Finds – Snowflake Tea Towel and Christmas Ornament
Head to your local Dollar Tree to snag a beautiful snowflake tea towel and a bell-shaped Christmas ornament. These affordable treasures will add a touch of holiday charm to your gift. Feel free to mix and match colors or patterns that complement each other.
You can also find some cute Christmas tea towels here on Amazon.
Step 4: Assembling the Gift
Lay the cutting board down and place the folded tea towel in the center. Position the bell-shaped ornament strategically on the board, creating a visually appealing arrangement.
You could also add a small cookbook to this stack on top of the towel and underneath the ornament.
Step 5: Tying it Together – The Gold Ribbon
Now, it’s time to tie everything together with a festive gold ribbon. Wrap the ribbon around the cutting board and secure it in a bow, adding a touch of sophistication to your DIY creation. If you’re feeling extra festive, attach a holiday-themed gift tag for a personalized touch. You can find some of my free gift tag printables right here.
Voila! You’ve just crafted a budget-friendly and heartwarming hostess gift idea for Christmas. This DIY creation not only showcases your thoughtfulness but also transforms thrifted items into a beautiful present that your hostess will cherish. Get creative, have fun, and spread the joy of the Holiday season with this delightful and unique gift!
