What’s better than doing crafts? Doing them with your children!
My little three year old had seen some snow globes over the weekend and was fascinated by them. When I told her that we could make them ourselves, her eyes widened with delight!
With a few inexpensive supplies and some old baby food jars, we made these cute little DIY snow globes together. It was such a fun, simple craft and my girlie is really excited to give them as Christmas gifts to her friends.
Materials:
- clean baby food jar & lid
- plastic toys that are small enough to fit in the jar
- coarse glitter
- water
- glue gun
Directions:
Your child can have a little fun picking out which toy she wants in which jar, and then your job is to glue them securely with a glue gun to the underside of the jar lid (centered).
Have your little one pour some glitter in the jars to make glittery, colourful “snow” for the snow globes (this was my little girl’s most favourite part). Use about 1 to 2 tablespoons (we used a little much)!
Fill the jars about 3/4 full with cold water.
Put a bead of hot glue around the top lip of the jar and quickly screw the lid on and press it down to secure it. Let the glue cool and set and then flip the jar over to see your handmade snow globe!
I’d recommend first flipping it over a sink just in case the seal doesn’t work (if it doesn’t, you can always remove the lid, let it dry and try again).
Shake the jars and watch the glitter swirl and fall…
My little C has already decided which jar she’ll gift to which friend. She melts my heart!
Such a fun craft to do with the littles! Just posted on Craft Gossip, thanks for sharing:)

Thanks so much for posting it, Kristen!
Oh wow! I remember making these when I was a little girl in Brownies! Now that I am a co-leader for my granddaughter’s Daisy scout troop I can’t wait to share this with them. What a wonderful memory that I can revisit with my own granddaughter! Thank you!!!
Aw, that’s so neat Melissa! What a fun memory to share with your granddaughter. Thanks so much for visiting!
