Make Boutique Nursery Drapes with Pre-Made Curtains and Pom-Pom Trim

With Baby Three arriving in about 7 weeks (give or take), I’m bound and determined to finish decorating my second daughter’s bedroom before that day comes. Little C had hers finished first, and I want to make sure Little A has a pretty room to sleep in too before I’m too busy to do much of anything!

I’m slowly plugging along at it, and one of my favourite things so far in it are these simple DIY nursery curtains that I made from Ikea drapes and some pom pom trim.

I knew that I wanted something a little “boutique” and whimsical for Little A’s drapes, but I didn’t want to spend too much.

The solution? Sewing some adorable pom-pom trim to some inexpensive pre-made curtains! The total cost for this project was less than $40.

I found some simple white curtains at IKEA for $20 and some pom-pom trim from Fabric.com. (I bought enough trim to sew down each side of the curtain panels – so, the length of the curtain panels x 4.)

Using a simple, straight stitch, I sewed the trim along the edges of each side of the drapes.

So cute!

The new drapes make a sweet and simple statement in Little A’s “sunny woodland nursery” themed room. Now onto the rest!

I think this technique could also be used for other drapes in the house. Imagine a sophisticated velvet or grosgrain ribbon trimmed drape? I’m thinking a cream curtain with a pewter coloured ribbon for our master bedroom is in order!
