With Christmas coming up in less than two months, now’s a great time to start making handmade Christmas gifts. These 4 DIY gift ideas look beautiful, but they’re SO easy to make and they use items from the dollar store! Let’s get crafting.
This DIY marbled mug, personalized notebook, embellished winter hat and these furry pom-pom slippers would be great gifts for Christmas, or for any time of the year. You could make all four in an afternoon and pop them into a festive gift basket for one lucky recipient…
… or give them as stocking stuffers or birthday gifts! For this pretty gift basket, I also used items from the dollar store to embellish it and make it look special.
Here are 4 beautiful but easy DIY dollar store gift ideas
Follow the simple instructions below each photo, or watch my detailed tutorial video at the end of this post to learn how to make these.
1: Marbled Mug
To make this marbled mug, simply place a few drops of two or three colours of nail polish into a disposable container filled with about 2-3″ of water. Swirl the polish a bit with a disposable skewer, and then dip the bottom of a dollar store white mug into the water and give it a little spin. Take your mug out of the water and you’ll see a beautiful, marbled design. Once the polish is dry, seal the design with Mod Podge.
2: Personalized Notebook
Take a plain dollar store notebook and trace its covers onto pretty dollar store wrapping paper. Cut the paper out according to the tracing, and then adhere it to the covers of the notebook with Mod Podge. Once the Mod Podge is dry, put another thin coat of Mod Podge on top of the paper and let that dry completely. Use some dollar store coloured duct tape to cover the spine of the notebook and add a personalized monogram to the front of the notebook using dollar store letter stickers.
3: Embellished Winter Hat
Make a plain knit hat more special by sewing dollar store glass beads in random sizes to the front of the hat. Use a needle and thread to secure the beads to the hat and make sure to tie a sturdy knot after sewing on each bead.
4: Furry Pom-Pom Slippers
Make some adorable, fluffy pom-poms out of dollar store eyelash yarn by wrapping it about 100 times around the four fingers of your hand. Gently remove the yarn from your hand, and wrap a 12″ piece of yarn tightly around the center of the ball and tie it together. Cut the loops of each side of your yarn ball, fluff it out, and then trim the pom-pom as needed with scissors to make it look nice & round. Make two of these and attach them to the tops of some dollar store slippers by sewing them in place with a needle and thread.
