If you yearn for a more subtle approach to Holiday decor, you’ll love these simple Christmas decorating ideas. By choosing a minimal look, you can spend less time and money decorating and more time enjoying the holiday festivities.
As I was planning our Christmas decor for this year, I realized I was longing for simplicity. I wanted to create a sense of calm, so I decided to use neutrals, sparkling lights and minimal decor.
The resulting look is natural and elegant, and it was so quick and easy to create. Most of the items I used were all ready on hand, so it’s a budget friendly look, too! I hope you enjoy our Holiday home this season and get some simple Christmas decorating ideas for your own home.
Watch my Christmas home tour video below:
Breakfast Nook
I’ve kept our breakfast nook decor subtle with a small evergreen bough from the dollar store over the mirror and an advent wreath on the table.
The advent wreath is made of a wreath I had on hand and some thrift store candlesticks. I painted the candlesticks with rose gold spray paint. It also features a beautiful candle from Everlasting Candle (gifted) in the center.
The addition of a sheepskin rug on the dining bench gives the room a cozy vibe. I love how the bits of greenery look with the DIY floral drapes and pillows I made earlier this year. (See how I made my floral drapes here!)
Kitchen
The kitchen has been kept simple as well. We do a lot of cooking and baking over Christmas, so I want to keep my counters mostly clear. A combination of a faux cedar garland from Canadian Tire and a faux eucalyptus garland from IKEA is draped over the window and held with Command hooks.
I’ve added tied thrifted books, a faux antler, and copper lidded jars to the counter. Simple additions like seasonal soaps on a cake stand add just enough Holiday cheer to the kitchen.
Living Room
The living room is always where I add the most Christmas decor. This is where we open our gifts each year and spend the most time as a family over the Holidays. A thrifted centerpiece on the coffee table adds a warm glow to the room.
My daughters wanted a “Cottagecore” themed Christmas tree with lots of natural elements, so I used mostly what I had on hand to create that look. (See how we made mushroom ornaments from our tree, here!) The tree is from Michaels a few years ago, and I strung it with my own lights this year for even more glow. We’ve included faux eucalyptus picks, lots of rose gold accents, and butterfly clips from the dollar store in our Christmas tree.
These beautiful gift boxes were given to me from Nemylu and they’re so lovely. You can reuse them year after year and the store flat.
I’ve hung a garland from Costco on the mantel, and added some eucalyptus picks for fullness. Command hooks and string enabled me to place the garland at the front of the mantel for a beautiful, full look. Gold candlesticks on either side of our mantel mirror add elegance that I can use all year long.
We recently replaced our sofa for something more comfortable and neutral, and this affordable couch is from Structube here in Canada. We absolutely love it so far.
Entryway
Even an entry can benefit from some simple festive touches. It’s the first thing your guests will see as they enter your home!
To ours I added a gift on the shoe cabinet, a faux eucalyptus garland on the stair railing, and a wreath from Costco on the door. A warm candle and completes the look.
Dining Room
For the dining room, I reused everything I have on hand to create a simple, glowing feel. This pre-lit garland from Costco a few years ago is the perfect table runner, and all the plates are a mixture of finds from Dollar Tree and Walmart over the years.
The green glasses are thrifted, and I love these mercury glass trees from Costco on the side table.
I love to set up a simple hot chocolate station for my girls on the buffet, and we kept this flocked tree bare for a winter wonderland feel.
Bedroom
Finally, a few simple touches to our main bedroom added so much warmth for the season.
You might know I love white linens, but we had the chance to try these natural coloured ones gifted to us by Magic Linen and I love them so much. The striped sheet set and beautiful duvet colour give this room a natural, farmhouse look. They are so warm and feel so rich and heavy to sleep in.
The addition of a faux garland over the bed, a wreath hung on the headboard, and a sheepskin rug give make this room so cozy for the season.
