Cleaning your fridge
One of the most important fridge organization tips is to keep your fridge clean. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s actually very important! A dirty fridge can lead to food spoilage and cross contamination. That’s why it’s important to wipe down your fridge regularly with a mild cleaning solution. I use a mixture of hot water and dish soap to clean my fridge. Any drawers or shelves that I can remove, I wash in the sink.
Organize by food group
One of the first things that you can do to get your fridge organized is to start by grouping similar items together. This might mean putting all your condiments together, placing your meats in one container, and placing all dairy items in the same spot. Generally, the top and doors of your fridge are not as cold as the other areas. These are great spots for condiments and food that will be eaten first like leftovers and snack items.
Containers to help fridge organization
Another fridge organization idea is to use storage containers. This will help you to keep your fridge organized and tidy. I like clear containers like this so that I can see what’s inside. Storage containers also help to prolong the life of your food by keeping them fresh and protected from spoilage. Lately, I’ve been aiming to cut up my produce right when I get home from the grocery store and place it in sealed containers. This makes for easy snacks! You can even label your containers so that your whole family knows where everything needs to go.
Meal planning
Finally, one of the best fridge organization tips is to create a meal plan. This will help you to know exactly what you need before you even open the fridge door. Having a meal plan will also help you to use up all of your perishables before they go bad. I like to create a meal plan on the weekend and then order my groceries online – so easy! If I don’t have the time to meal plan, I’ll opt for ready-to-go meal kits like Hello Fresh. You can use my exclusive link here to get $90 off your first order!
