Weddings can be expensive, there’s no doubt about that. A beautiful outdoor wedding can cost a fortune, especially when it comes to decorations. But it doesn’t have to be that way! With a little creativity and some careful planning, you can have the wedding of your dreams without breaking the bank. In this blog post, I’ll share some outdoor wedding decorations on a budget that will help you save money while still creating the perfect atmosphere for your big day.
My brother is getting married this summer, and I wanted to create some beautiful DIY wedding table decorations for their outdoor wedding shower. I love the idea of having a backyard wedding instead of hosting one at a more traditional venue. I used my Cricut to make most of these budget-friendly decor items, and I love how they turned out! Here’s how you can get a similar look for your own outdoor wedding reception or wedding shower table. The table featured in this blog post is for the guests of honor at the outdoor wedding shower, but you could use these ideas to create multiple tables for a variety of different events!

Use natural elements
One of the easiest and most affordable ways to decorate an outdoor wedding is by using natural elements like flowers, foliage, and branches. You can create stunning centerpieces using wildflowers or bouquets made from inexpensive flowers like daisies or sunflowers. If you have access to a backyard or a friend’s garden, consider using fresh-cut foliage to add greenery to your décor.
I used some natural moss as part of this DIY paper succulent table centerpiece I made with my Cricut, some cardstock, and an IKEA mini greenhouse. Here’s my Cricut Design Space file if you want to make a similar piece, or you could use plastic succulents. I used inexpensive battery-operated candles for the inside of the lantern.
DIY décor
Another great way to save money on outdoor wedding decorations is by doing it yourself. From table runners to centerpieces, there are a ton of DIY décor ideas that are easy to make and won’t put a dent in your budget.
Some DIY decor ideas that would work perfectly for a wedding are:
- custom signs like the one I made above with my Cricut for a succulent wedding favor station (let guests take a succulent in a pot home, or you could make little succulent terrariums in an upcycled jar)
- a rustic table centerpiece with mason jars and faux flowers
- this DIY macrame table runner for a budget wedding table accent
- a DIY bridal bouquet from fabric flowers
- an upcycled candle centerpiece using a vintage wooden bowl
- make wooden lanterns and decorate them with flowers and string lights to set around the table or yard
- lace decoupaged garden vase for fresh flowers or artificial flowers
These DIY ideas can add a personal touch to your budget-friendly wedding and make it look more expensive that it is!
Make use of string lights
String lights are a great way to create a magical intimate atmosphere, especially at night. You can string them overhead or wrapped around trees to create a beautiful and romantic ambiance. You can purchase string lights affordably or borrow from a friend who has used them at their own outdoor events.
I also love using smaller fairy lights on wire. Wrapping them around this DIY grapevine wreath with paper succulents makes it look so magical! This would be a beautiful decor accent for a wedding day.
Renting
Some people are hesitant to rent items for their special day, but it can end up saving you money in the long run. By renting outdoor décor accessories such as chairs, tables, and table settings, you can be able to obtain quality items at a cheaper rate than purchasing them outright. Rental companies have access to an extensive selection of items that can make your wedding picture-perfect.
One of my favourite items to rent for weddings or special events are chairs and chair covers. They make a world of difference for styling a stunning table! As a personalized accent for the bride & groom, I created a monogramed ribbon that I could tie over simple white chair covers.
Tents are another good item to rent since you may not ever use them again. I found this white tent on Amazon, but you can rent similar ones from most rental companies.
Get creative with seating
Instead of traditional chairs and tables, consider using blankets and pillows or even hay bales for seating for your low-budget wedding. Not only are these options more affordable than renting tables and chairs, but they also add a bohemian aesthetic to your wedding décor.
I used patio cushions as seating around my DIY low profile boho picnic table, and I think this would be a gorgeous look for a wedding shower.
Creating the outdoor wedding of your dreams doesn’t have to be expensive! By using natural elements, incorporating DIY décor, renting items, and getting creative with seating, you can achieve a picture-perfect wedding without breaking the bank.
