Today I’m excited to show you how we transformed my friend’s basement storage closet into a rustic modern tiny bathroom. If you have a small bathroom in need of an update, I hope you find some inspiration here!
Special thanks to Benjamin Moore & Metrie for gifting products for this makeover. You’ll find links to all products used in this transformation at the bottom of this post!

My friend Danielle is a busy mom of three young boys, and she’s a teacher at our local school. The past couple of years have been a huge challenge for her. I’m gifting her with the design and styling of her basement as my husband Sean has been hired to renovate.
First, here’s the transformation of her basement main room. Have a look!
Now, here’s how Danielle’s basement storage room looked BEFORE:
This small storage room is used to store seasonal decor, food, and a fridge. It’s plumbed for a bathroom, and Danielle wants it to be a bright & functional bathroom for her kids and her guests.
Next, here’s the mood board I came up with for this tiny bathroom transformation:
We want this small bathroom to coordinate with the rest of the basement. Like the main room, it will feature soft shades of white with deep blue, black and wood accents. It’ll have a rustic modern look with sleek lines, and all of the finishes will be sleek and easy to clean.
Finally, here’s how the tiny bathroom looks NOW:
I love this sleek modern look with the industrial elements. I think this colour scheme coordinates well with the rest of the basement, and everything will be easy to clean and maintain. All of the hooks are kid-friendly, and the natural looking textures like the wood tiles and stone tiles add interest to the space.
