Our Modern French Country Primary Bedroom – One Room Challenge Reveal

We are finally finished our modern French country master bedroom makeover for the One Room Challenge! I really, really enjoyed this project. This is a space for just my hubby and me, and I’m incredibly happy with how it turned out. It’s truly my dream bedroom! Let me give you a tour of our newly decorated space, and make sure to check out all of the other ORC makeovers linked at the bottom of this post. I can’t wait to see what all of the other designers have done this season!

I could spend all day here.

Let’s go back 6 weeks. Here’s what our master bedroom used to look like:

And here it is now:

The fresh, new coat of light greige coloured paint really did brighten this North facing room a whole lot.

The rustic wood ceiling I installed during week 2 of the challenge is a show-stopper, and I think it makes the ceiling fan look more at home here.

My original mood board helped me stay on track when I was choosing furniture and accessories for the space.

Everything is neutral coloured in here except for a couple of DIY floral throw pillows. I just had to put them in! I used this method to make them.

Our new bed, the Hancock Park King bed from The Brick, commands a lot of attention in the room too. When I first laid eyes on it in the store, I was sold. It reminds me of something you’d see Joanna Gaines put in a Fixer Upper space with its distressed white paint and its intricate details.

Swoon.

For a little bit of detail over the bed, I found an antique window and dry brushed it with a little bit of white and grey paint to make it blend into the space.

On either side of the bed we have these glamourous Nicolet Accent Cabinets that act as our nightstands. They’re nice and high to match the height of our bed (you can read about our mattress set here), and they offer a lot of storage which I find SO handy!

And we can’t forget about the lovely new barn door we installed during week 5 of the One Room Challenge that adds some detail to this side of the room along with some functionality.

For the floor, we chose to use a fluffy off-white rug to go beneath our bed. Hubby wanted something cozy for under his feet, and I thought that the Loft rug from The Brick was a nice, neutral colour that didn’t distract from our ceiling feature.

Back on the other side of the room, two Caroline Wing Chairs flank my first full length mirror ever! I thought a large mirror in our room would be such a lovely luxury to have that would bounce light around the space, (literally) mirror the detail on our nightstand cabinets, and offer a place to double check my outfit choice for the day. This mirror I found (the Hampton Mirror from The Brick) fit the bill! It’s just so glamourous. I chose to leave it leaning on the floor (with the top secured to the wall) to give our room a casual but elegant look.

A vintage looking birdcage and faux greenery adds a little French charm to this corner.

I’ve dressed our bed in my favourite linens – the Hampton Cream duvet and shams from Taylor Linens. The diamond stitched pillows are a no-sew DIY project (see the how-to here) using the same fabric as my handmade drapes (see how to make DIY grommet topped drapes here). I love the look of an all-white bed with a pop of colour in a throw pillow!

Coffee in bed, anyone?

On the far wall, we have a beautiful sign from local artisan William Rae Designs displayed.

There are so many things I love about this room, but one of the coolest is one of my hubby’s ideas:

He tucked a strip of LED lights behind the crown moulding we installed in the tray ceiling. They make for a nice, warm daytime lighting, or…

… gorgeously romantic mood lighting at night.

I can’t get enough of this room, and I’d stay here all day if I could! It’s so deliciously rustic, glamourous and vintage-looking all at the same time.

I’m really proud of all of the work we’ve done here, and I’d say it was all 100% worth it!

To recap, here’s what we did in this room:

Week 1: The Mood Board
Week 2: The Ceiling
Week 3: The Painting & Trim
Week 4: The Accessories
Week 5: The Barn Door
Week 6: The Reveal!

Things we didn’t get done? I thought I’d finish our master bathroom, but that was a no-go. We’ll do it another time. I also didn’t get to install a better separation between the room and our master closet, so that will go on the To Do List for Another Day as well!

So, what do you think? Does it look like a Modern French Country space to you?

Make sure to check out all of the other One Room Challenge reveals right here.

Thanks so much for following along as we worked on our bedroom! Special thanks to The Brick and our other sponsors for enabling me to make this dreamy master bedroom design idea a reality. We are going to enjoy this room for years to come!

  10. I’ve read the comments ahead I time so I don’t ask questions already answered. I see this was done awhile ago now & I don’t ever really comment…. But I use to be a Designer & Decorator & I’m really impressed with the ambiance of the room you did & the things that are unique and not all “what everyone has & is doing the same now” look. The pillows & fabric, the ceiling (bravo) & unique lighting and placement of furniture with a twist. So to finish I no longer can do it myself, just got sick & physically unable (it’s ok) and if it was feasible, I would have loved to bring you to my small down sized place that needs new furniture and give you all my own decor & piece’s I wanted to refinish myself and LET YOU DECORATE THE WHILE PLACE FOR ME!! That’s not something Ive ever said to anyone, even my Decorator friend. I believe you could bring my new dream home to fruition. All my prayer’s for your continued success & for your children & hubby. I’m subscribed & will tell all my 30 & 40 yr old friend to go & subscribe as well. Sincerely, an admirer of your talent
