Feminine Modern Farmhouse Guest Bedroom Makeover

Come see how I transformed our cluttered basement storage room into a feminine, modern farmhouse guest bedroom featuring a wall mural, soft colours, and a cozy bed.
Since turning our old garage house back from a guest home to a studio for my work with some storage space, we decided we now needed a guest room in our home. We thought we’d take a small room in the basement, move all of the storage in it up to the studio, and transform it into a cozy guest bedroom.
Here’s how the room looked before:
And here’s our feminine modern farmhouse guest bedroom now:
It took a lot longer than I expected to makeover this little 10 x 10 ft space, but I’m really happy with how it turned out!
My starting point was this gorgeous, oversized floral wallpaper mural in blush pinks and greys.
Then, I chose this upholstered modern Scandi look headboard from The Brick. I’ll write more on that in a blog post soon!
This modern geometric copper light fixture is a fun contrast to the more traditional elements in the room, and the patterned rug is also from The Brick. I liked that it was a pattern, but it’s different enough from the wallpaper mural so it doesn’t compete.
The trim colour in this room is Simply White by Benjamin Moore, and the soft blush pink wall colour is called White Meadow by Cloverdale. I thought painting the room this colour would help warm it up a little – especially since it’s in the basement!
To help make the one small window appear larger, I mounted some simple, long white drapes as high up as I could above the window and ensured the drapes cleared the window on either side.
I also took this old door that I wasn’t using anymore, mounted some hooks on it, and placed it in the corner of the room to act as a little spot to hang clothing or decor items.
The side table is an antique find, and it was already painted this soft white when I found it. Perfect! I love mixing old and new pieces in a room for interest.
A little copper guest basket filled with simple items like hand towels, slippers, a notebook, some hand cream and hand sanitizer is an easy way to help guests feel special.
My favourite way to make a bedroom feel cozy is lots of layered bedding, and I love white linens! I think white bedding looks especially lovely in this room because of the dramatic feature wall. I found this pretty macrame trimmed duvet cover on Amazon, and this simple striped sheet set helped tie everything together.
I made the blush pink faux fur accent pillow (find the tutorial to make it here), and the pom-pom throw is from Amazon.
I’m so happy with how this room came together, and I can’t wait to host guests here soon!

Wow, this looks amazing. I love that wallpaper mural, it is a show stopper and the rest of the room is so beautifully put together. Perfect guest bedroom.
