Modern Industrial Basement Makeover

While I enjoy decorating rooms in our own home, I love to makeover my friends’ rooms even more! It’s such a privilege to be able to work with my friends and family to DIY and decorate their spaces. It’s also super fun – can you say paint party?! You might remember that I was helping my friend, Cheryl, give her basement a makeover. Today, I’m so excited to share this modern industrial basement makeover with you.

I’m really happy with how this room turned out, and what’s better is that Cheryl and her family are loving this space too. It’s the perfect spot to relax with family and friends away from the main hustle and bustle of the house.

With a fresh coat of paint, a beautiful DIY ceiling treatment, and some gorgeous new furniture and accessories from The Brick, Cheryl’s basement lounge has been transformed to a modern industrial retreat.

Another detail that’s made a huge difference are the new wall light fixtures. They add a modern industrial flare to the space. You can often find beautiful light fixtures for low prices at your local home improvement store, and they’ll make a huge difference to your space!

Cheryl installed the tongue and groove pine ceiling herself and whitewashed it to give the room a fresh, new look.

Even though the original mood board for this space was monochromatic, I love that we threw in some pops of blue and green to the room to give it a little life. I think a windowless basement can always use some fresh colour to it whether that’s through faux greenery or colourful accents.

This cozy sectional is definitely the starring piece of furniture in this basement space – it’s the Oakdale 3 Piece Sectional from The Brick.  Tufting on the seat and a boxy profile give this sofa a modern look, but plush cushions and soft upholstery make it so comfy.

Rather than a traditional coffee table, we put three of these Chilton Ottomans in a row in front of the sectional. Using a collection of poufs or ottomans in place of a coffee table is an easy way to add interest to any space.

We used the rug that Cheryl already had in the space, and I really like how it adds a little bit of colour and femininity into this otherwise monochromatic and industrial looking room.

This Lightning Bug Lamp along with its matching floor lamp are just the perfect style for this modern industrial space, and I love how they light up this dark back corner of the room. A variety of light sources is important for a windowless room, so if you’re making over a basement of your own make sure to include table lamps and floor lamps in the mix.

We had a lot of fun styling this modern looking shelf called the Bari Bookcase from The Brick – I love that it has so many different sized nooks to highlight interesting items. Some vintage inspired books and faux plants add colour to this wall. The large piece of map art placed at the top of this bookcase makes the low ceiling appear higher.

Aren’t these bookends we found during our accessories shop amazing?! Every room can use a bit of quirk via some fun accessories! Don’t be afraid to add personality to your home through unexpected art or accessories.

Opposite the sectional, this mid-century modern inspired TV stand adds a dash of modern white colour to the room. Paired with the rustic Peyton Dining Chair and a colourful pillow, this side of the room is simple but stylish.

I know that this room will be loved by this special family, and I’m so happy that I was able to work with my friend to make this space a cozy retreat for them!
