Our Eclectic Living Room Refresh with a Custom Velvet Chaise Sofa

Did you know that The Brick offers an affordable custom furniture program? I was so excited to have the opportunity to design my own chaise sofa with their Designed2B line and give our living room a refresh! Let me show you how I designed it, styled it, and added some fun DIYs to our space.

If you’ve ever looked into having a custom piece of furniture made for your home, you’ll know how expensive it can be. The Designed2B line from The Brick is a more affordable solution if you want a sofa, chair or ottoman that will fit your room exactly in a fabric you love.

You can order your furniture either online right here or in-store at The Brick and most of the items are Canadian made! First, you choose your favourite style (there are three to choose from). I chose the Flora style for its traditional look and low-profile arms.

Next, you choose your configuration. There are all sorts of ways you can put your piece together – you could create a giant sectional to fit a large room, or a smaller one to fit a small space. You can also choose single loveseats, sofas and more! For my custom design, I chose a Left Arm Facing Loveseat to attach to a Right Arm Facing Chaise for a sectional that’s compact but still cozy.

With this configuration, I knew I could pair the chaise sofa with two chairs and have a few options on where I could put it in our living room. It can face the fireplace, or be perpendicular to it and still leave room for movement and other furniture.

The final step to ordering your own custom Designed2B piece is choosing the fabric. The Brick has a ton of beautiful options in all sorts of colours and textures, and of course I chose my favourite colour and feel: a sumptuous teal velvet called Kira Sea. I just LOVE this fabric!

You can also order throw pillows, accent chairs and ottomans to match your couch. I decided to go for this adorable round ottoman in the same Kira Sea fabric to act as a coffee table in our living room. I put my DIY tray on top for coffee, flowers and candles.

As a fun contrast to the chaise sofa, I found these beautiful leather-look and solid oak chairs from The Brick called the Frank Accent Chairs. I loved their mid-century modern vibe, and they are SO comfy! I thought the colour and shape was an interesting way to add some character to our living room, and offset the more traditional things in the space.

The ladder backs on these are so chic, and the lean-back design is perfect for lounging!

I just adore a good chair pair because they’re so versatile, and I placed the rustic Luda Accent Table we already had between the chairs.

With the new furniture, I changed up some other elements in our living room too. I added a DIY tassel banner to our mantel, along with our Mansard Mirror, some framed fabric (it’s a great option for inexpensive art!), one of our favourite family photos, and a couple other accessories.

I also sewed some new pillow covers for the sofa in textured and patterned neutral fabrics. I love the look of these in contrast to the colourful couch! You can find my exposed zippered pillow cover tutorial right here. The faux fur throw is also a DIY, and I’ll share the tutorial for that here soon too.

Our stair wall also got a bit of a makeover – I added some DIY board & batten to the wall and framed another piece of floral fabric to use as some dramatic art. I love how it now matches the rest of our walls in here!

The Focus Area Rug also from The Brick adds a bit of pattern and coziness to the room, but I love that its neutral colour doesn’t distract from the sofa. It feels soft on the feet, and its a great size!

I’m thrilled with how this room came together, and so happy with how my Designed2B chaise sofa turned out. It truly is the custom couch of my dreams, and it’s soft, luxurious, and the perfect size for our space. I’m not exactly sure what to call the style of our living room, but it’s some sort of combination of traditional, modern and boho. It’s definitely eclectic, and the whole family loves it!
