Our Modern French Country DIY Patio

It’s been the most gorgeous summer here, and we’ve been so fortunate to be able to spend a lot of it on our new patio. This space is perfect for entertaining, for relaxing, and it even makes a great outdoor office! Today, I want to share our new modern French country patio with you.
We’ve been working on this outdoor space for several weeks, and I’m excited that it’s all done! There are some things that we’d like to add when we have the budget for them (like capstones for the wall, a deck above and more landscaping), but for now this new patio functions beautifully for our summer dining and relaxing needs.
Here’s how our patio area looked a couple of months ago:
And here’s how it looks now:
The star of the show is this lovely patio set from The Brick:
I chose to use the Creston Patio Set here because it functions both as a dining area and a lounging area with its comfy seating and dining height table. It’s a great choice if you have limited patio space but love entertaining!
We also adore this giant umbrella. Not only is it practical because it shades our patio from the sun, but I think it helps give the space a chic French vibe. You can tilt this guy back a little like we have it here, or have it at a more horizontal angle when the sun is high in the sky. It’s perfect when I want to use this area as an outdoor office and need to see my laptop screen!
We’ve already been able to host a few BBQs here, and we love to spend our evenings cuddled up on the patio set listening to the wildlife in our woods.
The patio itself only cost us a couple hundred dollars to install. My hubby reclaimed these 2 x 2′ pavers from a job, and we purchased a truckload of this pea gravel to fill in the cracks and add a little extra area beyond the pavers section for a small fire pit.
I’ve styled the patio with floral cushions and flower pots (I can’t claim any credit for the pink petunia pots – they’re my mom’s and she is the BEST at caring for potted flowers!). This DIY arm knit throw is the coziest for cool summer nights.
I had a couple of these lit faux birch trees from Christmas time, and I love them just as much for summer mood lighting! This one is perched next to my DIY log stump bench.
The retaining wall on the left was a bit of an expensive feature, but we saved a little money by installing it ourselves and saving purchasing the capstones for later. I’d love to plant some hardy ferns or vines on the hill behind the wall, but that will be on next year’s to-do list!
We are thoroughly enjoying our DIY patio, and I’m so glad we finally have a space behind our home to host BBQs with friends.
What are YOUR patio must-haves?
