It’s Labour Day long weekend, which signals the end of summer holidays for us as the kids go back to school next week. It’s bittersweet. I love the lazy mornings, the family adventures, and the late nights, but I’m happy for the return to routine and more “me time”. It’s challenging to juggle work and life with the kids at home most every day!
As an ode to the end of summer, I thought I’d share with you our cozy late-summer back patio. The nights are much cooler now, so it’s the perfect time of year to have an evening cuddle on the patio with a fire and lots of twinkly lights and lanterns.
I love using Duraflame Stax Crackling Firelogs to light a quick fire in our patio fire pit. To start a fire, you simply have to stack 2 of these firelogs in a cross pattern, light the wrapper of the bottom one, and you’ll have a large, crackling fire within a few minutes.
You can add more logs if you want a longer lasting fire, but I find two Stax Firelogs is just right for an evening on the patio with my favourite drink. I get lots of questions about what these logs are made of, and I’m happy to say Stax logs are made from 100% renewable resources! Plus, Stax logs use less material than wood for a similar length of fire, which means they produces 50% less emissions than a comparable wood fire.
Besides a cozy fire which is a must for any chilly late-summer night, I also make our patio warmer with throw pillows and blankets. I put out a blanket for everyone, and they’re easy to throw back inside when we’re done!
Lanterns and votive candles also help make our patio feel warm, cozy, and sparkly on late summer evenings.
I also hung my DIY macrame chandelier from our patio umbrella for some extra ambiance (it’s so easy to move and quickly hook up anywhere with its chain), and put out a lit birch tree decoration I had from Christmas. I love adding twinkling lights to an outdoor space for any season! The twinkle lights in the chandelier are operated by a remote, and the lanterns are on a timer, so it’s easy to turn everything on and off in the evening.
We’re going to enjoy this space until the snow files! Cheers to summer, and cheers to new beginnings as we enter September!
Now tell me: How do you enjoy your outdoor spaces when it starts to get chillier outside?
