If you’re like me, the thought of remodeling your RV’s dated bedroom and tiny bathroom probably makes you break out in a cold sweat. But I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be scary – in fact, it can be a lot of fun! Today I’m going to show you the results of my recent RV bedroom and bathroom renovation, and I promise you’ll be amazed at how much of a difference a few simple changes can make. So if you’re ready for a little bit of inspiration, keep reading!
In early 2020, we purchased a 2007 30 foot fifth wheel travel trailer from Facebook Marketplace. That Spring and Summer, I completely transformed the main area and bunk room of the RV.
You can read all about the living area & kitchen remodel here, and the bunk room makeover here.
I recently posted a YouTube video showing how the remodel has lasted two years later, and you can watch that right here. (Spoiler: everything has been holding up really well!)
Want to see my ENTIRE RV renovation?
There have been so many questions about how I installed my RV flooring, how I painted my cabinets and walls to make them last, and how much I spent on my RV renovation. I put together a HUGE blog post sharing EVERYTHING!
The main bedroom and bathroom area has been left untouched until this Spring… I simply haven’t had the time to renovate it! However, we’re going on an epic RV trip this Spring and it was the perfect motivation to get this space done.
Here’s how the bedroom and bathroom looked before:
It was your typical early-2000s golden oak coloured faux wood cabinetry, and beige coloured walls.
Here’s how I updated the space on a budget:
- sanded and primed, and painted all of the cabinetry (get my full cabinet painting method with links to the paint I use right here)
- painted the ceiling and walls in Behr Whisper White Scuff Defense paint with my paint sprayer
- laid down vinyl plank flooring over the old linoleum (no longer in stock, but it was originally from Costco)
- swapped out the dated window coverings for cafe rods and hemmed IKEA drapes
- removed the cabinets over the bed and added beadboard paneling and modern light fixtures (with these 12V edison bulbs)
- swapped out the cabinet handles and sink faucet for brushed gold versions
- installed peel & stick tile over the bathroom sink
- added hooks to the walls and added a new shower curtain
- installed peel & stick wallpaper behind the toilet to tie in the beige coloured toilet & tub
RV Bedroom & Bathroom AFTER:
So, what do you think of my RV bedroom and bathroom makeover? I’m so happy with how it turned out – it looks much more polished and luxurious than before! Of course, I didn’t have to spend a lot of money to achieve this look. Painting everything made the biggest difference!
Tips for your own RV bedroom remodel
If you’re thinking about updating your own RV bedroom or bathroom on a budget, here are some tips that will help: First of all, start by decluttering the space. Get rid of any unnecessary furniture or accessories. Then, give the walls and ceilings a fresh coat of paint in a light color. This will brighten up the room and make it feel larger. Consider creating an accent wall in something more moody (my bedroom accent wall colour is Black Evergreen by Behr). Laying vinyl plank flooring isn’t too hard, and it can make a huge difference in how your RV looks and functions. You can also add some inexpensive decorative touches, like new curtains or wall art, to complete the look. With these simple steps, you can give your RV a whole new feel in no time!
I love what you did!!! Wondering how all the white held up? Id be worried about cleaning even more than I already do!
The RV paint is holding up quite nicely.
Great job! I never even thought about renovating my camper, I just bought stuff to match what was already there lol.
I don’t see a link for the hand towl holder you put up next to the sink. Is that available? Thanks!
The towel holder is from Homesense.
Love love love it!
Excellent! Looking back on the total RV renovation – and after your epic trip this Spring – are there any changes you would make?
Everything looks awesome. Love everything you did. I would like to know what faucet you used and what sink brand you used.
Great job! Inspires me to work on my RV.
The sink is the same but the faucet was changed to a brushed gold.
You painted right over the wallpaper that usually comes with an RV? Did you prep the walls so the paint would stick better?
I painted the RV walls and ceilings with latex paint – note that I didn’t prime because these surfaces were flat and rough, but prime if you have walls that have any sort of gloss (I used BEHR ULTRA â„¢ SCUFF DEFENSE â„¢ Interior Extra Durable Flat Paint & Primer)
What about blocking light from the windows for sleeping?
If sunlight is an issue, you could use room darkening curtains.
I think this is beautiful. My hubby & I are looking to invest in an RV. I’m definitely going to make it more cozy & homey looking when we decide on one? thank you so much for sharing
You have given me New Light on making our camper, a home and not just..a camper. I Love what you did. Looks Beautiful, Warm and Inviting. Now, if I can just get my husband on board….lol
I was thinking to renovate our camper and saw this. Now I am planning on doing it. Thanks for sharing.
