This post is part of a seasonal blog hop I’m doing with some of my favourite blogging friends! Make sure to visit all the links at the bottom of this post to get more beautiful Valentine’s Day DIY ideas! If you like quick and inexpensive home decor crafts, you’ll love this DIY heart pillow! It does involve a little bit of crochet (crocheting a chain), but you could simply use chunkier yarn if you don’t wish to crochet.
I love how this pillow looks with my grouping of a DIY floral pillow and my favourite fringed pillow from Anthropologie.

Materials:
- ball of chenille yarn (I used this one)
- crochet hook
- pillow cover (I found this tassled 20 x 20″ cover from H&M Home)
- glue gun
- hot glue sticks
- large heart template (I cut an 11 1/2 x 11 1/2″ heart using my Cricut)
Instructions:
Crochet a long chain with the chenille yarn. It can be about 3 yards long, and then simply leave the yarn attached to the chain so that you can chain more length if needed. Learn how to crochet a chain via this video. Alternatively, use an extra chunky yarn instead of crocheting a chain.
Place your heart template on the center front of your pillow cover. Trace around the heart shape with a pencil.
Starting from the bottom point of the heart shape, begin gluing the crochet chain onto the pencil line using your hot glue gun. Glue small sections at a time.
Continue gluing the chain onto the pillow cover in rows, going from the outside of the heart shape to the inside. If you run out of crochet chain, simply crochet more before you continue gluing it to the pillow.
Once you’re satisfied with the look of your heart (I did 5 rows for mine, but you could fill in the entire shape), cut your yarn and pull the tail through the final loop on your crochet chain. Gently tuck and glue the loose ends of the yarn underneath the design. Since this pillow uses hot glue, it would be a hand washonly item. You could use fabric glue or a sewing machine to tack the design in place if you’d prefer to machine wash the pillow.
This DIY pillow is such a lovely addition to our Valentines themed living room decor this season! I hope you enjoy making one for your home, too.
