Let’s make some adorable DIY cat slippers from $3 Walmart slippers that are cute and cozy to wear around the house. These are incredibly easy to make and they only cost a few dollars. They make a perfect gift for any cat lover!
With Halloween approaching, these DIY black cat slippers are the perfect way to keep your feet warm! These would also make a sweet gift with Christmas gift-giving season coming soon. Either way, these kitty slippers are very easy to make with no machine sewing required.
All you’ll need for this project are some black slippers (I found mine at Walmart – they have a 2 pack of slippers for $6 CDN), hot glue or fabric glue, a scrap piece of stiff black fabric, white embroidery floss, and an embroidery needle.
How to make DIY black cat slippers
To begin, gather your supplies. I’m using these black fabric slippers from Walmart that came in a pack of 2 for $6 CDN. What a great deal!
Next, remove any embellishments your slippers have with a seam ripper. Mine had a small satin bow that I removed.
Now, using a scrap piece of black fabric, cut out small triangle shapes for ears. You can use any sort of fabric that won’t fray when it’s cut like faux fur, minky or felt.
Next, use hot glue or fabric glue to attach the ears to the top sides of each slipper. I’m using my hot glue gun with special Gorilla Glue glue sticks that seem to hold up well for me in the wash.
Finally, use an embroidery needle and white embroidery floss to stitch a small triangle nose and whiskers onto the top of each slipper. You can free-hand the design like I did, or draw it onto each slipper first with a washable white chalk pen. Make sure to tie your floss firmly at the back of your work before cutting.
Now your DIY cat slippers are complete! I think these are so cute, and would make a fun addition to a Halloween themed gift basket, or a cozy Christmas gift box.
You could also make different animal versions of these DIY slippers – a bunny or a bear version would be so sweet!
Have fun making these cat slippers!
