Make Upcycled Mason Jar Cozies & Sweater Ornaments

Do you remember the mittens I made last week with sweaters I found at the thrift store? Today I’m going to use the rest of the sweaters to make some cute little Christmas gifts and decor! Let me show you how to make these adorable mason jar cozies and Christmas ornaments out of thrifted sweaters.
These cozies and ornaments are perfect for your own Holiday decor this year (they’re so Hygge!), or they also make unique gifts.
I filled a couple of my cozy jars with fairy lights and candles for cozy Christmas decor, and then I filled the other ones with candy and tied the upcycled ornaments to them to give as unique gifts for teachers & friends this year.
To make the aqua cabled mason jar cozies, I simply cut out the part of the thrifted sweater I wanted to use to wrap around my jars. Then, I used a glue gun to glue them directly on my mason jars. I glued both the seam and the top & bottom of the sweater cozy so that it wouldn’t fray.
To make the grey mason jar cozies with the cuffed edge, I cut off the end of the sweater sleeve and then hand sewed the raw edge with a long running stitch. I pulled the thread to gather & close the edge shut, and then I tied a knot to secure everything. Finally, I simply slipped a mason jar into the little sock-like cozy I made, and turned the ribbed edge down to make the cuff look.
To make the upcycled sweater Christmas star ornament, I traced a star cookie cutter onto a sweater with a permanent marker. I cut two layers of sweater in the star shape, and then I stitched around the star with a contrasting coloured yarn with a blanket stitch. I left an opening at the end to stuff a little bit of polyester fiberfill inside, and then I finished stitching the ornament shut. To finish the ornament, I stitched a 9 inch length of yarn through one of the star points and tied it to create a hanger for the ornament.
