Take a Dollar Tree Spring vase to the next level by creating a beautiful macrame detail! This is a great project if you’re new to macrame, and gives off a gorgeous boho vibe for your Spring decor this year.
This project is part of the Seasonal Simplicity Spring Series blog hop hosted by The Happy Housie. Make sure to visit all of the other Spring DIY ideas linked the end of this post!
When I saw this beautiful aqua coloured vase at Dollar Tree, I grabbed it right away thinking I’d love to incorporate it into my Spring decor this year.
It was pretty as-is, but the addition of a DIY macrame embellishment gives is a little extra something! This is a very easy macrame project that would be fun to do if you’re a beginner at the craft.
Watch my YouTube video below to learn how to make this DIY macrame Dollar Tree vase (with 3 other boho inspired DIYs for Spring!):
Here’s how to make a DIY macrame Dollar Tree vase
Materials:
- large vase with pronounced neck
- butcher’s twine (also from Dollar Tree)
- ruler
- scissors
Here are some basic macrame knots you’ll use in this DIY project:
Instructions:
Tie a piece of butcher’s twine around the neck of the vase, leaving two long tails that hang down the height of the vase.
Cut 24 pieces of butcher’s twine that are twice the height of the vase, and then attach them to the first string using a larks head knot. To make a larks head knot, fold a piece of the twine in half, thread it under the base string with the loop facing down, and then pull the tails of the string through the loop to attach it to the base string.
Once all 24 pieces of string are attached to the base string, take 4 pieces of string and tie them together about 1″ below the base string using a square knot.
Once square knots have been made all around the vase, take 2 pieces of string from one knot and two from the adjacent knot and create another row of square knots about 1″ below the first row. You will create a staggered, diamond pattern.
Once the second row of knots has been created, take 2 pieces of string from one knot and two from the adjacent knot and tie them together in an overhand knot. Continue all the way around the vase until you’ve created 6 tassels. Trim the ends of the tassels with scissors so they’re even.
Your simple macrame boho vase is complete! I filled mine with faux flowers from Dollar Tree along with some pampas grass from Etsy to decorate my mantel for Spring.

so cute! love the color of your vase with the macrame!
I love how the macrame dresses up an otherwise plainish vase. But it is a beautiful colour. Thanks for sharing on the blog hop!
Amazing work!! Looking for more from you.
The vase is a beautiful color and a great find. Clever idea to add the macrame detail for that little something extra for it. Pinned. Thanks for sharing at #HomeMattersParty
So delicate and pretty for spring.
