DIY Upcycled Candle with a dollar store ramekin

Have an old candle you never use? You can recycle it into a beautiful DIY upcycled candle that makes a lovely home decor accent or a gift.

Here’s how to make an upcycled candle with a dollar store ramekin:

Materials:

• old candle
• heat resistant ramekin (a small casserole dish that’s 4-5″ in diameter – I found mine at Dollarama)
• pot
• water
• old heat resistant glass measuring cup
• tweezers
• oven mitt
• bamboo skewer

To make your DIY upcycled candle, first find a heat-resistant ramekin. This is a small casserole dish that’s usually about 4-5 inches in diameter. I found mine at Dollarama in the dishware aisle.

Next, create a DIY double boiler by placing a pot on your stove and filling it about half full with water. Boil the water and then place a heat-resistant glass measuring cup inside the pot. I use an old measuring cup so that it doesn’t matter if I get wax inside. Place an old candle inside the measuring cup.

Now, wait for the old candle to melt. Mine took about 1 hour to melt down. You may have to add more water to your pot periodically.

Next, carefully transfer the old wick to the dollar store ramekin with tweezers. Afix the wick to the bottom center of the ramekin. The excess wax on the wick should secure it, but you can also place a dab of hot glue on the bottom of the wick. Wrap the top of the wick around a bamboo skewer. Wearing an oven mitt, carefully pour the melted wax into the ramekin until it’s about 1/2″ from the top of the ramekin.

Finally, let the wax cool completely until it hardens. This took about 2 hours for my DIY upcycled candle. Trim the wick and enjoy your new candle!
