Make a Stunning Faux Succulent Pumpkin DIY Centerpiece

Fall is here, and what better way to celebrate the season than by creating a DIY centerpiece that not only adds a touch of Autumnal charm to your home but also reflects your unique crafting skills. If you’re a fan of succulents and pumpkins, this DIY project combines the two in a beautiful way! So, grab your crafting supplies and get ready to make a stunning faux succulent pumpkin DIY centerpiece.
My local pumpkin farm is always a treat to visit, and when I found these gorgeous creamy orange pumpkins this year I knew I wanted to create a unique centerpiece. Using some inexpensive dollar store moss and faux succulents, I made a beautiful succulent pumpkin design for our Thanksgiving table. I can’t wait to show you how easy this is to make!

Step 1: Choose Your Materials
To make this faux succulent pumpkin DIY centerpiece, you will need a few supplies. The first thing you need to do is to choose your pumpkin. You can purchase a real pumpkin from the store or a faux craft pumpkins made of foam or plastic. If you want your centerpiece to last longer, I recommend going for the faux pumpkin. In these photos, I’m using a real Cinderella pumpkin from my local pumpkin farm. Next, you’ll need a set of faux succulents. You can usually find these at Dollar Tree, or you can buy them here from Amazon. Finally, you’ll need some dollar store reindeer moss and a hot glue gun. You can also use Spanish moss in addition to the reindeer moss for even more texture and interest.
Step 2: Prepare Your Pumpkin
The next step is to prepare your pumpkin. You can do this by cleaning your real pumpkin and removing any dirt or debris. Click here to see how I clean & preserve my real pumpkins with vinegar. If you are using a faux pumpkin, you may still need to clean it as it may have some dust on it. Make sure you pumpkin is completely dry before moving onto the next step.
Step 3: Attach the Moss
Apply some hot glue to the top of your pumpkin around the stem area. Press a layer of moss firmly into the hot glue, spreading it out over the pumpkin. Repeat these steps until you’ve covered the top quarter of the pumpkin. You can make the edge of the moss irregular so that it looks more natural.
Step 3: Cut and Glue Your Faux Succulents
Arrange the succulents within the mossy area on top of the pumpkin, making sure that they all fit within the mossy portion. If your succulents have long stems, use floral scissors to trim the succulent stem so that it sits nicely on the pumpkin. When you are satisfied with the arrangement, use your hot glue gun to attach the succulents to the pumpkin.
Using Real Succulent Cuttings
You may also wish to use real succulents and sedums instead of faux. To make this work, tuck the plants gently into the moss without glue and spray the centerpiece periodically with a fine mist of water to help the real succulents last longer.
Take your time, and be careful not to burn yourself with the hot glue. To give your centerpiece a more natural look, use a variety of sizes and textures of faux succulents. Also, I find that using an odd number of succulents always looks best! Consider only using one or two larger succulents and using small succulents for the rest of the arrangement.
Step 4: Add Pizzazz to Your Centerpiece
Now that you have your succulent pumpkin centerpiece, you can add some extra details to make it stand out. You can add small pebbles, acorns, pinecones, or more moss to the bottom of the pumpkin to cover any empty spaces. I also created a second succulent pumpkin with a smaller pumpkin to display beside my larger one. The two pumpkins with a candle and some dollar store vase filler make the perfect, budget-friendly table centerpiece! It’s beautiful for a Thanksgiving table, or simply as the finishing touch to your Fall or Halloween decor this season.
