How to make DIY personalized socks with your Cricut
What you’ll need to make these personalized socks:
- a pair of plain wool socks
- Cricut machine (I used the Explore 3, but you could use the Explore 2, Joy or Maker)
- heat transfer vinyl in a colour that contrasts the socks (I used Smart Heat Transfer Vinyl in black)
To begin, create your design in Cricut Design Space. Make two rectangles that are the same size as the sole of each sock, and then write whatever saying you want to fit inside the rectangles. I put “if you can read this” on one rectangle, and “bring me some coffee” on the other.
Next, delete the rectangle shapes, “weld” your text so it’s all one image and send the design to your Cricut for cutting. Make sure to mirror your image before cutting it on heat transfer vinyl.
Once your design has been cut, weed away any of the excess vinyl to reveal the letters.
Place your letters onto the soles of each sock, and center them.
Use a Cricut EasyPress (or a household iron) to fuse the heat transfer vinyl to the socks. You can refer to Cricut’s EasyPress heat guide to set the temperature and time for the transfer.
Once the design has transferred and is completely cool, carefully remove the backing.
These DIY socks are adorable to give on their own, or add them to a coffee themed gift basket:
Happy DIYing!
