What do you think of wallpaper? I’m seeing it more in more in home decor these days, and I have to say that I LOVE it. In small doses, that is. Unlike the wallpaper fad of the 80’s, today’s use of wallpaper is more subtle. It’s such a great material to use when you want to make a feature wall in a room, or I also love it in powder rooms. Remember my bird wallpaper in our powder room? I’ve done a few wallpaper jobs now, so today I wanted to share with you how I hang wallpaper.
I’m working with my friend on her daughters’ bedroom makeover, so we’re going to use their room as our example. The wallpaper we chose to make a feature wall in this room is AMAZING! The pattern is gorgeous, and the wallpaper comes pre-pasted which I’ve learned is SO MUCH EASIER to hang than unpasted wallpaper.
We found this wallpaper here at Anthropologie. It’s really expensive, but I can tell you that it’s a lot better quality and much easier to hang than a cheap wallpaper. I’m still happy with the uber-cheap wallpaper I hung in our powder room, but if you want an easier application spend a few extra bucks to buy thicker, prepasted wallpaper.
One HUGE tip when working with wallpaper is that it’s always better to be generous on your measuring than skimpy. Buy more wallpaper than you think you’ll need for pattern matching, and err on the side of making your wallpaper strips longer when measuring your wall. You can always easily trim your wallpaper after it’s hung with a utility knife. Cut it too short? You’re out of luck!
